My Referrals includes banners and buttons to add to your website. When a visitor to your site clicks a banner and then continues to signup for a Plusnet product you can earn the referral value for their chosen product.
We recommend reading the My Referrals Help article if you need more information about My Referrals.
How do I add a banner to my website?
It's easy:
- Log on to the banner page of My Referrals in the Member Centre
- Select the type of banner you want from the dropdown menu
- Choose a banner suitable for your website - each one has a different message and is aimed at a different type of visitor
- Copy the banner's HTML code - it is important you use this code to get credit for clicks from your site
- Paste it into your webpage's HTML code
- Upload your webpage to the Internet - see our Webspace Connection Details guide for help
- Check the banner appears on your website
And that is it - simply sit back and watch your visitors signup to Plusnet and earn you money. You can monitor how many clicks and successful recommendations you make on the Current Referrals page.
How does it work?
The code displays the banner on your own webpage and generates a unique URL. When a visitor to your site clicks on a banner, a cookie is placed on their computer to track them. The cookie lasts for 90 days unless it's deleted by the visitor.
Please note: you will not be credited for a signup if it's made after the cookie expires or it is deleted.
Using a text link instead of a banner
You don't have to use a banner to make recommendations from your website; text links can work just as well. Add them to your website copy and even your emails.
- Go to the banner page in My Referrals
- Select 'Text links' from the Banner and text links dropdown menu
- Click Copy to copy the text link code
- Go to your webpage or email and choose to edit as HTML. Then Paste your copied code into your website or email's HTML code
- Update 'Here' with the copy you want to be a hyperlink, e.g. 'Check out the Plusnet broadband range now'
Note: the code must be copied from the My Referral banner page to include your unique URL. This URL allows us to track recommendations back to you.
Example of the text link HTML code:
Make a pop-up window
When a visitor clicks a banner you can make a new window open. Simply insert this into your website's code:
You can edit the size of the pop-up box using the width and height variables, or change the alignment with 'left' and 'top'. All measurements are in pixels.
Single and rotating banners
Select the 'single banner' code if you just want one banner to be displayed, or use the 'multiple banner' code if you want one of the three banners to be randomly displayed. By altering the number of banners and adding a new section of code for each, you may alter the number of banners which are shown.
